The Legion of Doom was designed to be the ultimate antithesis to the Superfriends, Collecting some of their greatest villains. However, This was not the original line-up for the legion. The first Legion of Doom was called simply the “League of Evil.” The first membership lineup was headed by Doctor Sivana, the main nemesis of Captain Marvel, and included some less well known villains such as Mister Atom and King Kull. There were also some of the more popular villains like Joker, Mr. Frieze, and Catwoman. Unfortunately, because the live-action “Shazam”, and the animated “New Adventures of Bat Man” Many of these villains had to be removed from the line-up. This left us with the classic team that we know today.

The Legion formed to combat the forces of the Super Friends, combining the strengths of each villain with the ultimate goal to be repeatedly beaten. Each week, the Legion would create a new plot to defeat the Super Friends and then narrowly escape capture. Over the years the Legion has appeared in the comics in a few different forms, some more successful than others. But none are as legendary as the Legion of Doom.
